Being A Part Of The Shun Melson Glam Squad

So, last weekend I got the opportunity to do something amazing. Celebrity fashion stylist Shun Melson was in town doing a fashion show along with two other stylists and needed more hairstylists and makeup artists to help her vision come together. I was one of the hairstylists selected! It was a great experience for many reasons, one being that the fashion show was actually taking place at my church for the Tasha Cobbs iLead Escape conference. Second, I got to see first hand what it was like to work behind the scenes of a real live fashion show. Third, I got to do what I love to do which is hair! I swear when I am working, it does not feel like work at all!

The day started very early for me. I had a full day in the salon with my clients (first client came at 7am) and as soon as I got off around 4pm I had to get to the church by 4:30pm. The show did not actually start until 10:30pm so we had a lot of prepping to do.

This is one of the models that I styled. Shun wanted her to have a pin curl style but did not want anything neat. She wanted messy, but still stylish hair. So I pin curled this model all over, let the curls cool off, then styled. After I got done her hair was looking so neat so I took my hands rubbed them through her hair trying to purposely mess it up. The more I did that
, the cuter it got! But it no longer looked extremely neat and Shun gave her approval and that was all that really mattered.

This is Ryan Christopher, who is a fashion stylist also from Birmingham that was assisting Shun for the fashion show. He has also styled celebrities including LisaRaye, Ruben Studdard, and Robin Givens.

While the models were going through hair and makeup, the finished ones headed to rehearsal.

As time began to wind down, I quickly began to realize how tired I was! I was having a good time but my bed was calling me.

The model I styled all dressed up.

Another model whose hair I styled. I put her braids up in a bun (a messy bun of course).

The third model. Another stylist curled her hair but it was too neat for Shun so I fluffed it to make it bigger and fuller.

This is fashion stylist Sir Algernon with two of the models for his collection. I did not style the hair for these two but they looked so cute I had to get a picture.  I LOVE that black and white dress!

And last but not least, me and Shun!

After the show was over, I don't even think it took me all of five minutes to pull my wig off, put my pjs on, and fall asleep. But I would definitely do it all over again!
