Straightening Natural Hair Without Chemicals (silk press)

Many relaxer-free women get their hair straightened for different reasons.  I typically see a lot of women straighten their un-relaxed hair because they want it to be trimmed and/or they want to see how long it has gotten.  Then I have others that just have no interest in wearing their hair in its natural state, they just do not want any chemicals in their hair.  The latter reason usually comes when the person has had some type of damage done to their hair from relaxers.  As a result, they just do not get any more altogether.  Whether your hair is wavy or extra kinky in its natural state, I have made it my business to learn how to straighten any texture of hair AND to do so without damaging it.  This client came in for the first time wanting her hair silk pressed.  She was unsure if I would be able to get it silky straight because her hair has a tight coil and is very thick and coarse.  Take a look at her before picture:

The picture shown above was taken right after she was shampooed.  I do this so that you can see an accurate picture of the curl pattern since when any client first arrives there is products in the hair.  I did the first shampoo with none other than Silk Hydration by L. Jones Clarifying Shampoo.  I used this twice to ensure that no more product build-up or oil was on the hair.  Then I shampooed with Silk Hydration by L. Jones Extreme Moisture Shampoo.  This includes liquid silk to help put the moisture, softness, and silkiness back in the hair.

Any time you are battling dry hair, you want to use high quality products because many of the cheaper brands contain ingredients like sulfates and parabens that strip the hair of all of its moisture making it even drier.  Therefore, you always want to use a moisture shampoo so you can add all of the moisture you need back in the hair without using any extra products like oils, grease, etc. When I shampoo my own hair, I always make sure I use lots of conditioners, including leave-in, so that my hair is properly moisturized and by the time I style my hair, nothing much else needs to be added to my hair.

After her shampoo, I put Silk Hydration by L. Jones Intense Moisturizing Treatment on the hair since she told me one of her issues with her hair was dryness.  After rinsing, I was very generous with applying the leave-in conditioner before I moved on to blow drying.

The leave-in conditioner allowed me to effortlessly detangle the hair while I was blow drying.  This client had a LOT of hair and I did not want the hair to air dry at all or it might be harder to blow dry.  After the blow dry, I then began silk pressing it with the flat iron.  She also got a fresh trim and a little bit of Silk Hydration by L. Jones Miracle Potion no9 to help with any humidity and to give it a little shine.

All she has to do to maintain this style is to wrap it nightly.  Once she shampoos it again her hair will go back to her before picture above.  No additional heat needed during the week is needed and no other products needed either.

**Update**- After doing this client's hair, she went home and wrote a review on her hair experience and this is what she had to say

"Ms jones was amazing!!! I have extremely kinky/nappy thick hair but she got it silky straight!! I will definitely be returning and I recommend her for everyone with natural hair. If she can do mine, she can do anybody's! It has so much bounce and so light! I love it!"
