How To Choose The Best Hair For Your Sew-In

How to choose the best hair for your sew in

With more and more women looking for protective hairstyles for their hair, sew-ins have become even more popular than once before.  Sew-ins are great protective styles that allow your hair to rest and take a break from its normal day to day activities.  As the demand for sew-ins increases, so does the demand for high quality hair.

When I first started doing sew-ins I did not fully understand how important it was to have hair that was of excellent quality.  I would simply send my client to the beauty supply store and allowed her to pick the hair of her choice, which in some cases was whatever was the cheapest.  I quickly learned that with sew-ins, the quality of the hair is just as important as doing a great job on the sew-in itself.  You could have the best sew-in job done but if it is done with poor quality hair that is really defeating the purpose.  This is what lead me to start my own hair line company (L. Jones Hair Collection)

L. Jones Hair Collection got started because I had a client once who had gotten a sew-in done by someone else with some cheap hair bought at a beauty supply store.  She came to me to get a shampoo and style.  With no thoughts about it, I did what she asked and

The Best Hair Products For Relaxed & Natural Hair

The best products for relaxed & natural hair
As many of you know, in addition to being a professional hairstylist I also have my own line of hair care products.  Silk Hydration by L. Jones is my brand's name and under the brand I currently have seven products.  These products include shampoo, conditioner, and a few styling aids.  These are the best hair products for relaxed & natural hair.  Being a professional hairstylist makes me fully aware of the needs of my clients' hair.  So, who better to create a hair care line?  And when I say "my line" that is what I really mean.  I get all of the ingredients needed, cook it, bottle it, label it, and ship it to you!  I also test each and every item before it goes on the market to ensure its excellence.  For those that are unfamiliar with my hair care line, let me introduce you to each item.

Top 3 Myths About Natural Hair

top 3 myths about natural hair

As a professional hairstylist, I see many women who have natural hair.  My clients include natural women who have recently gone natural as well as women who have been natural for years.  Yet still, many of them have the same questions and believe the same myths about their natural hair.  Today I want to expose my top three myths about natural hair.

Myth #1.  Natural hair is easier-  I think this is the most common misconception about having natural hair.  Very few women that have natural hair are able to just wake up and go.  Most women have to do something to their natural hair to get it to look how they want.  This can include twisting or rolling it, adding product, or making sure it has enough moisture.  This often has to be done if not on a daily basis, multiple times per week.  A lot of times women find that the upkeep of th

Will Keratin Treatments Damage Your Natural Hair?

As more and more women choose to go natural and leave all traces of a relaxer behind them, I get more requests to do keratin treatments.  And with more requests comes more questions about them, especially when a lot of natural women have never heard of keratin treatments.

Will keratin treatments damage your natural hair?

First, let me explain what a keratin treatment is.  A keratin treatment basically will eliminate the majority of the curl from natural hair for up to twelve weeks.  It is actually a "treatment" so it does not damage the hair.  As a matter of fact, even women with relaxed hair can get them too.  Keratin is a protein that we already have in our hair.  Getting a keratin treatment adds more protein to the hair allowing it to become stronger and smoother, and restores hair that may be damaged.  They are more popular with natural hair due to the fact that they allow natural women to enjoy straight hair temporarily before their curl pattern returns.  The benefits are that they do strengthen and treat the hair so the more often you get them, the healthier your hair can become.  Also, for natural women, in addition to letting you enjoy straight hair they also allow you to enjoy frizz free hair and hair that will not revert back to your natural curl if you decide to get it wet.

3 Reasons To Get A Full Sew-In

3 Reasons To Get A Full Sew-In
Before I went on maternity leave at the salon, many of my clients decided to get sew-ins until I came back.  This worked out well because that way they did not have to worry about their hair while I was out.  Sew-ins are a great to have for several reasons.  Here are my top three reasons to get a full sew-in.

1.  Low maintenance- One great thing about sew-ins is that they are so easy to take care of.  They are much more low maintenance than your natural hair which is why you may see many people with plenty of hair still wearing extensions all of the time.

2.  Protects the hair- When done right, sew-ins can make your natural hair grow significantly.  And I say when done right, because when done wrong they can do the exact opposite and cause great damage to the hair.  When getting them it is important that they are not too tight which will put extra tension on the hair, especially around the edges where the hair is more fragile.

3.  They are long lasting-  One of the main reasons why clients decided to get sew-ins while I was out was because of how long they last.  Sew-ins can last for up to twelve weeks or three months before they need to be taken down.  This gives your hair time to rest from everyday styling, especially with heat.  It is this three month resting period that allows your hair to grow.

If you have ever thought about getting a sew-in but were hesitant to do so, I would suggest you at least try it out and see how you like it.  A few things to remember are to go to someone who is experienced with them and to get some great quality hair (which can be purchased at www.ljoneshaircollection.com).  This will ensure that you have a great sew-in experience.  The client featured in this post has a sew-in done by me and hair from my collection, which is the Brazilian straight in 8 and 10 inches.   This is a full sew-in meaning only about an inch of her real hair is out at the top so that her natural part will show and cover the tracks.  Other than that, the majority of the hair you see is all extension hair.

Guess Who's Back??

You may have noticed that I have not done a blog post in a while.  Since Feb 16 to be exact!  Now that I say that out loud it seems like February was forever ago.  Well, I have been quite busy lately!  Busy being pregnant and having a baby!  This pregnancy was much rougher than the first and had me physically drained of my energy so blogging was not very high on my priority list.  Needless to say, I have since had my bundle of joy and am now getting back to my regularly scheduled program.  Here is a picture of my newest addition:

Although you can't tell from the hat, he was born with a head full of beautifully thick hair!  No wonder I had so much heartburn...  Here is a picture of his hair..

While pregnant and up until this point, I decided to take a break from everything work related.  I closed the salon for seven weeks, shut down the Silk Hydration by L. Jones website, stopped blogging, stopped making YouTube videos, etc and just allowed my body to get some much needed rest.  After the baby got here I then took that time to actually enjoy him and bond with him and I am so glad that I did.  I have to admit that I did miss working though and am not ready to get back to it!  With that being said, look for more posts to start coming to your inbox!  And if you haven't already, please subscribe to the blog to ensure that you do not miss any posts!
