Can All Natural Hair Be Silk Pressed?

I once had a potential client call and ask if any kind of natural hair could be silk pressed.  She saw some of my pictures online and did not think it was possible for her hair to look the same way.  She said she had 4-something hair.  I had no idea what she was talking about because hairstylists do not use this lingo.  She told me that her hair was very coarse and very thick and extremely tightly curled.  I told her that anyone with natural hair could get a silk press and it would look just like relaxed hair as long as they went to the right person.  I particularly know how to do this because I do it practically every day and have learned the tips, tricks, and techniques to straightening even the kinkiest of curls.

I always start by basically doing the same thing which includes a really good shampoo.  This is critical and great quality products are essential.  Of course Silk Hydration by L. Jones products are excellent and I start by using the Extreme Clean (clarifying shampoo) to get all of the dirt, oil, and residue off of the hair so I can start with a clean slate.  Then I follow up with the Extreme Moisture (moisturizing shampoo) to add the good stuff back in the hair, including liquid silk which softens the hair and gives it a silky feel.

Next, I move on to the conditioning.  I like to use the Intense Moisturizing Treatment for dry hair since included eight different oils in it.  For normal hair the Daily Conditioner will work just fine.  For this client I used the Daily Conditioner, let it sit long enough for me to comb through all of the hair then rinsed it out.  Then I sprayed an ample of amount of Silk Hydration by L. Jones Leave-In Conditioner on the hair.  The leave-in is excellent for detangling and giving the hair an extra layer of moisture.

Next, the blow drying began followed by the straightening.  I only had to flat iron the hair one time instead of going over each piece of hair multiple times to get it straight.  Also, only straightening the hair once ensures that the hair will curl right back up once she shampoos it again.

After I was done, I sprayed Miracle Potion no9 on it which controls frizz and gives the hair shine.  All she has to do is wrap it every night to keep it straight.  No extra heat or extra oil needed!
