Silk Press & Permanent Color On Natural Hair

Today I had a client with LOTS of thick pretty hair.  She came in for the first time wanting to get some color and to get her relaxer free hair silk pressed.  I was very comfortable with doing permanent color on her since she did not have any relaxer in her hair.  I always say pick one or the other, UNLESS you are willing to relaxer stretch to the extreme. I have permanent color and a relaxer on my hair and it is still very healthy for two reasons.  One, I only get two relaxers per year.  Two, I only went about two shades above my natural hair color.  The lighter you try to color your hair, especially when your natural color is black, the more work it takes to do it and the weaker your hair gets.  Going just a few shades lighter will lessen your chances of getting any damage.

When I got started, I began by coloring her hair first.  She was afraid to color her entire hair so we decided to color half of it (the top half) and leave the bottom black.  Once she gets used to the color she can decide if she wants to color the rest. After I colored the hair I rinsed and shampooed with Silk Hydration by L. Jones Clarifying Shampoo.  I used this because if there was any trace of the color left in the hair or any product build up at all the clarifying shampoo will remove that from the hair.

After rinsing the clarifying shampoo, I followed it up with the Silk Hydration by L. Jones Moisturizing Shampoo.  It contains liquid silk so that will put the moisture and softness back in the hair.  Then I gave her a Silk Hydration by L. Jones Intense Moisturizing Treatment.  I let this sit on the hair for about 45 minutes so add essential oils and moisture back into the hair.  Any time you get color it takes some of the moisture out of the hair so my goal was to put it back in the hair.

After the treatment the hair was now ready to be blown dry.  I first sprayed Silk Hydration by L. Jones Leave-In Conditioner.  This helped me comb through the hair and detangle it.  After I finished blow drying I then pressed it with my ceramic flat iron provided by my sponsor Theorie.  I think I am falling in love with that flat iron!  My only regret is that I did not get a one inch also (I got the 1.5 inch).  It did amazing on her hair and I only had to flat iron each piece of hair once!

Her hair turned out great.  She really liked the color and the way her hair felt and looked which means my job was done!
