Mid-Week Motivation- Using The Power of the Tongue

Today's post was inspired by a conversation I had with someone recently.  They were telling me how broke they were, how they couldn't afford this and that, and so forth.  As our conversation continued I could not help but remember a time when I used to speak the same way.  After emerging myself in the Word, I decided to start saying what God says about me, and stop saying unnecessary things about myself.  In order to change our situations, we first need to ask ourselves a few questions.

  1. Do you believe in God?
  2. Do you believe that God sent his son Jesus to die for us AND that Jesus rose again from the dead and now sits on the right hand of the Father?
  3. Do you believe that God always tells us the truth and NEVER lies?

If you answered yes to all three of these questions then you are ready to continue reading.  If you believe everything that God tells us in his word is the truth and that He never lies, then all of your problems are solved!  He tells us that we have the power of life and death in our tongue (Proverbs 18:21).  That means that your words have power!  With that said, what are you saying about your situations?  If you continue to speak negatively, whether it is the truth or not, you will continue to get negativity.  I am not saying to be in denial about your situation, but I am saying to say what God says about your situation.  Let's look at an example:
  • You work everyday but your paycheck is barely enough to cover all of your bills.  Just the mere thought of looking at your check book sickens you.  If anything unexpected were to happen where you needed a good amount of extra money you have no idea where you would get the money from.  Does this sound like you?

First thing first, God tells us exactly what to do with our money AND tells us how to get more.  We must first give Him his by paying our tithes.  If you are not familiar with the bible, what I am about to tell you is going to blow your mind.  God tells us to pay our tithes to Him which is 10% of our money. This does not include money gained illegally or money loaned to us.  This is our (legal) money that we have worked hard for or that was given to us .  And no, He doesn't need our money, He is not hurting one bit financially.  This is His way of getting us used to putting Him first!  He then goes even further by telling us that if we do this, he will open up the windows of heaven and pour us out a blessing that we will not have room enough to receive!  (Malachi 3:10)  Can you imagine having MORE than you have room for?!  Well, He still does not stop there!  He says try it and put Him to the test, almost daring us.  Basically, he is asking us what do we have to lose?  Obviously He knows that our way is not working so he tells us to try Him, and it WILL work.  Not it might, it WILL!

Now, your check might be "x" amount which just is not cutting it.  God is telling you to take 10% of that and give it to Him.  Once we begin to trust Him, he has a way of making our ends meet AND giving us more so that we can help others.  He is the God of abundance, so it is not in His nature to give us the exact amount that we need, or to give us enough to get us by.  It is His nature to give us exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we could ever ask or even think (Ephesians 3:20)!  So we first must believe what He says to us, then actually do what He told us to do.

Now that we have established that we must tithe, now we can come to Him confidently and ask for anything we want that is in line with His will.  It is God's will for his children to be prosperous & succeed in every area of our lives, including financially.  Well, God says that He will make us the head and not the tail, that we will be the lender and not the borrower, that we will be on top and not the bottom (Deuteronomy 28:12-13).  So, the question is, who are you going to believe?  Are you going to believe God or are you going to believe what your current situation is telling you?  You do have a choice to believe who you want.  If you believe God despite your circumstances then you are placing your faith in Him and he rewards us when we do this.

In order to use your words, you must actually start speaking positivity and speak to your situations.  You can look at your check book, and despite the fact that it may not have much money in it, start saying this, "Lord, thank you for supplying all of my needs according to your riches (Philippians 4:19).  Thank you for making me the lender and not the borrower, the head and not the tail.  Thank you that I have more than enough to take care of me and to help someone else.  You said that as long as I am a tither, the devil will be rebuked for my sake.  You said that the windows of heaven will be open to me and blessings will overtake me.  I believe your word and thank you for all of your blessings, in Jesus name Amen."

Now, you are not done yet!  The devil hates to see God's people prosper so he will do everything he can to block you from getting your blessings.  He goes about seeking to steal, kill, and destroy God's people.  It is our responsibility to also rebuke him.  We must tell him that he has no authority over us!

Continue confessing God's word and believing in Him and watch your situation turn around. Once you tell God that you trust Him, then you must release control of the situation and let Him handle it.  If you continue to try to do things your way, God will let you do just that.  It is time to let go and let God! Don't worry about how it will happen, because that is God's responsibility.  Just believe that it will.   I'm not telling you what I heard, I am telling you what I know from experience!  When I graduated from college, I used to be so broke.  At one point I was working two full time jobs and a part time job on the weekends.  I was tired all of the time.  One day I just got sick and tired of being sick and tired.  I started tithing off of my money and giving an offering.  Almost immediately I began noticing a difference.  All of a sudden things just started happening for me.  All of my bills were paid, my car worked perfectly, and random people would just bless me for no apparent reason.  Also, if I went shopping, the thing I had my eye on would happen to be on sale or I would have a coupon.  My paychecks were still the same but God made my ends meet and then some.  I have not looked back since.  Also, the bible tells us to be generous givers.  He tells us that we must give in order to get more.  It sounds crazy to some, but I choose to believe God!  When my money gets low, I start giving even more and being a bigger blessing to others! And guess what, He is not lying.  So, to summarize getting your finances back looking good follow these steps:
  1. Tithe & Give
  2. Find out what God has said about your situation.
  3. Speak positively over and to your circumstances.
  4. Thank God continuously!
  5. Rebuke the devil!
  6. Repeat.
I hope this helps some of you out there, because it sure helped me! Let me know how it goes for you!

  1. I love this and am in agreement with everything you've written. This is how I live my life as well....I know without a shadow of a doubt if I obey God and give him what's his first, he'll supply all my needs (Phil.4:19). I believe it because I have tried it and taken Him at his word. He has blessed me tremendously after putting my complete trust in Him. I love being a blessing to others and God has made it so that I can be. God bless you and thanks for sharing this awesome word!!!

  2. Thank you SO much for this post! It was right on time. There are times when I can get discouraged about situations and forget that my Father is a King and by default I am a Princess and He only wants me to have the best. May God continue to bless you and your family!!
