Benefits of Relaxer Stretching

This client is one that I am so very proud of!  She has managed to stretch her relaxer out past twenty weeks!  This is very good for her because she does not like to comb her hair, despite it being thick and long.  She says she can manage it and that she does wrap it when she first gets it done, but after it starts getting thick she just lets it go.  And by let it go I mean she only puts it in a ponytail.  She only brushes the sides up but does not comb the hair all of the way through, which results in her having lots and lots of tangles.  At her appointment she came in thinking that she was going to get her hair wrapped and not have any heat applied to it but I was not even going there.  When you have this much new growth, especially on thick hair, your hair is not going to look bone straight without some heat being applied to it.  It can, however, remain straight by simply wrapping it every night.

This is the before pictures.  Normal hair grows at a rate of about half an inch per month.  She has gone about four to five months without relaxing and her new growth is approximately 2.5 inches so she is right on track and her hair is growing at the normal rate.  At this point she has plenty of new growth and can safely get a relaxer without getting any damage from over-processing previously relaxed hair.  She had enough new growth when she reached two inches but still chooses to stretch a little bit longer.  Any additional stretching is just more icing on the cake.

The products I used on her hair were all Silk Hydration by L. Jones products.  I started with the Silk Hydration by L Jones Clarifying Shampoo to remove all of the dirt, oil, and residue from the hair.  That was followed by the Silk Hydration by L. Jones Moisturizing Shampoo which includes silk to add the good moisture back in.  Next, I put the Silk Hydration by L. Jones Daily Conditioner in, making sure to get on all of the hair.  After rinsing, I towel dried the hair then sprayed with Silk Hydration by L. Jones Leave-In Conditioner and combed all the way through.  At this point the hair is prepped and ready to be blown dry.

After the hair was dry, I began flat ironing.  I used my flat iron supplied by my sponsor Theorie to get the awesome results you see here.  They were excellent on all of this thick hair and I only had to flat iron each piece of hair once!  I was able to get very close to the root and everything.

Once I was done I lightly sprayed the hair with Silk Hydration by L. Jones Miracle Potion no9 which adds some shine eliminates any frizz from the hair.  Great stuff!

Her hair will remain like this if she continues to wrap it every night.  Once she shampoos it again, it will go back to her before picture until she relaxes it .
