Snow Day In Birmingham, AL

Normally, it does not snow in Birmingham, AL but the past few days have been a shock to quite a few people.  We are used to the snow coming in and pretty much melting pretty quickly.  But not this week.  We experienced the winter storm Leon and he was just down right disrespectful!  It all started about 10a.m Tuesday morning.  It was said that the snow was coming but that it would not really affect us here.  Well, that was terribly wrong!  It started snowing, and all of the schools let out and parents tried their best to go get them.  It was pure pandemonium because the snow had already began to fall and was coming down pretty hard.

Luckily for me and my family, I am off on Tuesdays so my son stays home with me.  He had a doctor's appointment for Tuesday afternoon which my husband was going to take him to.  For that reason my husband was going to take a half day at work but Monday night he decided to just take the full day off.  When we woke up, I saw that my son's school sent out a mass text message and email saying that the schools were closing due to the weather and to please come get the kids as soon as possible.  Shortly after, my husband said he was going to get our son ready for the doctor's appointment.  I told him that he might want to call to confirm the appointment because the schools were letting out.

As I got ready to go downstairs to prepare breakfast, I noticed what looked like ice in my flower pot outside.  I look out the window and the snow was coming down!  I couldn't believe what I was seeing.  As I began to look at the news and hear how people were trapped in traffic and that they could not get to their kids, my heart began to ache.  Some kids were forced to spend the night at the school while the parents were stuck at their jobs and in traffic.  There were several wrecks and some people even abandoned their cars to begin to attempt to walk to their destinations.  Others just slept in their cars.  It has been absolutely awful.  Even my neighbors were unable to get their middle school children from school because they were both trapped at work.  The national guard dropped them off at our house until they can get back reunited with their parents and we welcomed them right on in!  I was just telling my husband that I wanted to go to the store the night before and did not get a chance to go and the next day it was too late.  Luckily, I am a couponer so my pantry and deep freezer were stocked.  We have been eating good over here and I am just so thankful that I did not have to endure that mess.  I don't know what I would do if I could not get to my child!  This is definitely the last time I want to see snow for a very long time.  This makes me just want to go and book my summer vacations!  I sure hope all of my readers and their families are warm and safe! Check out the pics of what it looks like here..
