How Often Should You Trim Your Hair?

As many of you have heard me say before, split ends can NOT be repaired.  Instead, they must be cut off.  I know that split ends make the hair look longer but does it make it look healthier? No one should ever sacrifice the health of their hair in order for the hair to look longer.  Just go ahead and get to your nearest trusted professional hairstylist and cut those ends trimmed!

It is always healthier in the long run, and in the short for that matter, to get your ends trimmed on a regular basis.  This way it won't seem like such a large amount of hair is being chopped off.  If you wait months or years to get your ends trimmed you may have to get over two inches cut in order to get all of the split ends off.  The reason for this is because once the ends start to split they will continue to do so until you cut them right where the splitting begins.

I recommend a schedule of every 10-12 weeks.  If you have a relaxer this means that you can get one at every touch up service (or every other if you haven't mastered the art of relaxer stretching just yet).  If you are natural that equates up to about every three months.  Especially if you are natural, it is harder to see your split ends if you wear your hair curly all of the time so coming in on a regular basis will ensure that you don't have to get a whole lot cut.

A lot of people think that trimming your ends makes your hair grow faster.  The truth is that trimming your hair doesn't actually help your hair grow because your hair grows from your scalp not from the ends.  It does help you to retain all of your length because you aren't having to cut so much, especially when you get them done on a regular basis.  And again, it helps your hair become healthier and look healthier.  So don't be scared to get those ends clipped!

Keep it healthy!
