**Series** Guide To Having Healthy Relaxed & Colored Hair

Today I decided to get some color in my hair.  I got a few highlights that are a reddish brown color which were put in by the foil method.  I have relaxed hair as many of you know and I always advise people not to get color when they hair is relaxed.  I do this because majority of women don't have the time and/or resources to take care of colored, relaxed hair.  Having color in relaxed hair is very high maintenance and not taking the proper care of it always leads to breakage and damage, which is why I just tell women not to do it.

I got my color #1 because I wanted it and #2 because I thought it would be a good idea to actually show you the upkeep required to maintain it.  Throughout this series I will be giving a few rules for having color and relaxers and once the series is over you can decide if it is something you would want to do.

last pic before the color goes on!

Rule #1- Do NOT even consider getting color if your hair is already damaged!  This is always a recipe for disaster.  I had a client that started coming to me because her hair was damaged and she needed someone that would take care of it.  I began treating her hair and not even a month after she started coming to me she actually asked me when could she get permenant color.  I politely told her that I did not recomment that she get color due to the fact that her hair was damaged and just in the beginning stages of becoming back healthy again.  Needless to say, she stopped coming to me, and I'm sure she found some stylist that was willing to give her whatever she asked for regardless of the condition of her hair.  But one thing is for certain, no one will ever be able to say that I did something that damaged their hair!  I actually care about the health of the hair.  Yes I want the client to look great also but I will not do something to the hair that will damage it.

I got my hair foiled because it looks more natural than the cap.  With foil you can place the color exactly where you want it versus with the cap you are just randomly pulling hair out of the cap not knowing exactly how it will lay until you pull the cap off.

Once the color was rinsed from my hair and it had been shampooed I applied Silk Hydration by L. Jones Intense Moisturizing Treatment and let it sit for one hour before rinsing. I did this because color tends to dry relaxed hair out so it needs the moisture that it lost to be put back in. See a couple of pics below for the after as well as a video of me straightening it.

Yes it's very subtle but I'm thinking of adding more red in it next week.
