How To Detangle Your Extremely Thick Hair

Whenever I do a silk press on someone with natural hair, the first thing they ask is how was I able to detangle it so easily.  I have heard plenty of horror stories of other stylists ripping their hair out while trying to straighten it.  No wonder by the time they get to me they are nervous and scared to death of what the outcome will be despite seeing my work.  Follow my instructions carefully and you will be able to comb through hair like this:

After cleansing the hair really well with shampoo, it is very important to also condition it well.  Of course I use Silk Hydration by L. Jones conditioners.  Once I've rinsed that out I start my detangling while the hair is almost dripping wet.

Taking small sections, I start by using a wide tooth comb or a vent brush and begin at the ends of the hair and work my way up.  Hair is most fragile when wet so make sure you are careful with it.  Being too aggressive by combing too vigorously or rushing to hurry and get done will cause breakage.
The thicker your hair is the more sections you will have to take.  Once you have completed all of the sections you should be able to comb through all of your hair with ease.  And after you get used to doing it so many times it will get easier and you will be able to do it faster.  So the secret to detangling your thick hair is to first take small sections and second to start from the bottom and with your way up
