Curly Silk Press (Roller Set) On Natural Hair

This client came to me for the first time today to get a curly silk press.  She wanted it to be straight but have the roller set look.  She had a ton of very pretty hair so lets take a look at the before pic.

I told you this one had lots of hair! Her hair texture was more wavy than kinky.  Excuse me but I don't know the "natural hair lingo" that a lot of people refer to using numbers and letters.  If you wear a lot of weave, her hair was like wet and wavy :)

The process:  I started by using a clarifying shampoo to get rid of any product build up or residue that may have accumulated on the hair.  Then I applied Silk Hydration by L. Jones Intense Moisturizing Treatment to the hair and let sit for a few minutes because she told me that her hair was very dry.

After rinsing I towel dried the hair than began the detangling process.  I detangled in sections, then started blow drying.

After the hair was completely dry I began the silking using a ceramic flat iron.

After I flat ironed it I then rolled it with the largest rollers I had (2in).

I only let the rollers sit in her hair for a minute or two before I took them down and styled with my fingers.

See how shiny the hair looks? The only products used on her hair were the clarifying shampoo and the Silk Hydration by L. Jones Intense Moisturizing Treatment.  I sparingly put a little oil serum only on her edges to lay down a few fly aways but that's it!  For maintenance she will roll it back up every night if she wants it to stay curly.  If she wants them even looser she can wrap it.

  1. So after you rinsed out the treatment you didnt put anything Else on the hair before flatironing?

  2. Do you advise using rollers each night to keep the style fresh?
