Short, Relaxed, and Healthy Hair

This client is one of the few clients that I have with short hair.  She says she loves it short and doesn't see herself growing it back!  She once had long, healthy, relaxed hair and chose to cut it short not because she had to, not because it was damaged, simply because she was tired of long hair.  You see ladies, your hair can be healthy whether you have a relaxer or not.  It's all in how you take care of it.  If you have a relaxer and abuse your hair by getting them too often (before 8 weeks), putting too much heat in your hair, putting permanent color in it, not wrapping it, etc, the end result will always be damage.  However, if you take care of it, you will have very healthy relaxed hair.  On the other hand, having natural hair does not always mean healthier hair.  You can have natural hair, or shall I say relaxer free hair, but if you are still putting too much heat on it, putting too much color on it too often, not protecting it at night, you can still very much have damged hair! My point is that no matter what you choose to do to your hair whether it be to relax it or to not relax it, take care of it! Unhealthy, damaged hair is just not cute!

This client's hair was actually a little longer than this but she wanted to get it cut a bit shorter so it would go about her ears.

As you can see she has very thick hair and with this style she can wear it curly like today or it also looks cute straight and curled in the layers.  She still has options even with her short hair.

I used a clarifying shampoo on her, followed by a dandruff shampoo because her scalp flakes quite a bit.  I then followed up with a dandruff conditoner (no Silk Hydration this time).  After rinsing, I combed her hair straight down, put her under the dryer, then curled. Simple as that.

To maintain this style, she can put on her wrap cap (the one that is open in the top) and sleep comfortably. In the morning, she can simply remove her wrap cap and use her wide toothed comb to fix any hairs that need to be fixed.
