Going From Natural Hair To Relaxed Hair: A Hair Transformation

This customer came in wanting a change.  She said that she tried the natural look and she just didn't want to do it anymore.  She was tired of the kinky curl and wanted to get her relaxer back.  She also wanted a cute short cut as well and I was happy to oblige.  Let's take a look at the before pic.

I started by basing her scalp really good because she told me that she has been sensitive to relaxers in the past.  Next I applied Mizani Butter Blend relaxer to her hair only for a few minutes because she didn't want to get it bone straight, only just straight enough to be able to wear it a little wavy if she wanted to.  After rinsing and neutralizing, I then placed her under the dryer.  Once dry, I cut it a little to give it some shape and then curled.  Here are the after pics.

I gave her a little spike action in the top and curled the rest down.  This will be an easy style to maintain.

I used to use a stove and the marcel irons on all of my short hair clients.  My stove died on me and I never replaced it because 98% of my clients have long hair and it just wasn't financially beneficial for me to replace a stove that I barely used anyway.  Also, the 2% of clients that have short hair is still long enough to use the flat iron which is what I used on this client.

  1. Wow. This is the first time I've ever seen some one go from natural to relaxed. Guess natural dont always mean better. Good job by the way!
