How To Potty Train Your Stubborn Toddler (update)

(he says he's 3!) lol

I recently posted on how to potty train a toddler that seems like they just don't want to cooperate.  Once I took my son's pediatrician's advice (see here), he came around the very same day!  My issue was that he wasn't requesting to go potty but he wasn't wetting himself either.  Therefore, every now and then he would have an accident which I felt could have been avoided if he would have just told me.  The straw that broke the camel's back was when he went number two in his room, on the CARPET!  Instead of simply coming in there and telling me that he had to use it.  So I went back to my pediatrician's suggestion and applied it again but this time told him that not only did he have to use the potty but that he had to tell me when he had to go.  Until he did so, he couldn't play with any toys, ipad, nor even watch cartoons.  I even left all of his toys out on the floor so that he could see them but he couldn't play with them.  Well, needless to say, a few hours later he told me that he had to go potty.  Even though it was a bit inconvenient since we were in the middle of the line at the DMV, those five words "I need to go potty" were music to my ears.  I took him and he actually used it!  We came back out and he was telling everyone he pee peed in the toilet! Ha!

Next, once we got home he told me again that he had to go potty.  This time he did number two and I was too happy.  Once he got done, he looks up at me and says "I'm not in time out anymore!" Really? So basically he was capable of doing it all along, just needed a little motivational push in the right direction to get him on track.  Now all is well again in the Jones houselhold..

*Note* I still let him wear pull ups while napping and at bedtime until I see that he can remain dry all night or through the naps.  I have noticed that he stays dry majority of the time during nap but has only stayed dry once during the whole night.
