Want Healthier Hair? Start With Your Body!

One surefire way to get healthier hair is by having a healthier body.  Proper nutrition is vital for healthy hair.  So why not start within?  My best friend and I recently realized that we were not taking as good care of our bodies as we should have been.  The result.....weight gain.  She suggested a fitness challenge where we would both have to get down to our desired goals within three months which will be the end of December.  At first I was a bit hesitant, not to the challenge itself, but challenging against her.  First of all, she is already a size 6 and only wants to lose 3 inches off of her waist.  I on the other hand am a size 12, trying to get to a size 8 by losing 15 pounds.  Clearly she has the advantage I thought to myself, then I decided, what the heck, no more excuses. So I signed up for Weight Watchers, started getting more physically active, and am looking forward to this weight coming off!  I have my first weigh in on Thursday, so I will be sure to update you all weekly.  My starting point? Well, I used to be ashamed and embarrassed to ever say my weight but what the hell, don't we all have something about our bodies that we don't like?  No one is perfect and I fully except that about my flaws.  My husband tells me I'm beautiful constantly and that I don't need to change one thing.  Even my two year old tells me I'm pretty while I'm wearing scrubs, no make up, and my hair is wrapped up!  Weight watchers even says I'm in a healthy weight range for my height and age, BUT, I'm in the latter part of that healthy range.  So in my mind, I'm one slice of pizza away from being overweight! I would feel a lot more comfortable in the middle of the range, so with that being said, my starting weight was 165 and I would like to get down to somewhere in between 145-150.  I basically want to get to a point where I don't have to suck or tuck anything in to give the illusion that I'm smaller than I really am.  So 15 pounds sounds realistic to me and I'm pretty sure I can do it by December as long as I do what is required of me.  A wise person once told me that if I didn't like something, change it.  Sounds very simple but it is so true.

My Starting Point

I truly believe that the health of our over all bodies is very important, not just the health of our hair.  Besides, like I said earlier, once we gain complete control over having healthy bodies, our hair has no choice but to reap the benefits.  Just increasing our water intake alone has so many benefits, including our hair.  It is the number one hydrator, which is why our bodies crave it.  Look at the ingredients on your shampoo and conditioner.  Nine times out of ten water is the first ingredient listed.  If not, its time to switch products! The same goes for a lot of other things we use like body wash, lotion, hand soap, etc.  So lets all start being healthier from within our bodies first.  That will make our healthy hair journey so much easier!

  1. It seems like a lot of people are on three month weight loss challenge. I started mine on Monday. Although I do have a goal to lose 20 lbs by the end of the year my main goal is to make sure that do some form of exercise Mon-Fri. I have the tendency to stop working out for months at a time. I want to end that. But anyway, good luck and I hope you reach your goal.
